How to connect an iCal or webcal calendar

Year Glance can connect to any calendar that provides an iCal or webcal link. This includes Apple Calendar, project management tools, booking systems and any other software that can export or subscribe to a calendar feed.

This is a read only connection. You'll be able to view events from the connected calendar in Year Glance, but you won't be able to create or edit events in it from within Year Glance.

Before you start

You'll need the iCal or webcal link for the calendar you want to connect. This is usually found in the sharing or export settings of the source calendar or app. Links typically start with webcal:// or end in .ics.

Common places to find this link:

• Apple Calendar / iCloud: Calendar app > right click the calendar > Share Calendar > Public Calendar, then copy the link
• Project management and other tools: Look for a "calendar feed", "subscribe" or "export" option, usually in settings

Steps to connect

1. Log in to Year Glance and open Calendars
2. Scroll to the bottom of the panel to Connect a Calendar
3. Select Connect with URL
4. Paste in your iCal or webcal link
5. Select Connect

Your calendar will import and appear in your calendar list alongside your Google and Microsoft calendars. From there, you can toggle it on or off, apply your theme, and include it in anything you share or print, just like any other connected calendar.

Syncing

Because this is a read only feed, Year Glance checks the source link periodically to keep events up to date. Sync timing depends on how often the source calendar updates its own feed and the Year Glance plan you are on. It is not instant like Google or Microsoft connection.

Removing a connected iCal or webcal calendar

1. Open Calendars
2. Find the connected calendar in your list
3. Select the cross next to it to disconnect

Disconnecting removes that calendar's events from Year Glance. It does not affect the original calendar or source.

Troubleshooting

The link won't import
Double check the link is a direct iCal or webcal link and not a page that displays the calendar visually. It should start with webcal:// or end in .ics.

Events aren't updating
This depends on how often the source calendar refreshes its own feed. Some platforms only update their feed every few hours. If you've made a change and it hasn't appeared after some time, check whether the source platform has a manual refresh or republish option for its feed.

The calendar is private and I don't have a public link
Most platforms require a calendar to be set to public, or to generate a specific "secret" or "private" sharing link, before it will produce an iCal or webcal feed. Check the sharing settings within the source app.
